Parent and Community Involvement

Members of the Columbia High School community concur that cohesion and active participation is critical in the growth and development of our students.  The following activities encourage parental and community interaction in the school setting:

  1. Encourage every parent to attend at least one school function each year, such as parent conferences, performances, award ceremonies, Open House, etc.
  2. Provide an annual “Parent University” in November to increase awareness of school and district priorities, programs and information.
  3. Host an annual cluster festival and Capital 5K Run in April to promote a sense of community spirit and connectivity.
  4. Conduct a class competition for Parent Shadowing.  Provide an incentive for the class with the highest percentage of parents that participate and attend two or more classes with their child.
  5. Encourage parents and members of the community to join and attend activities such as the Band Booster club, the Athletic club, and the Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA).
  6. Encourage parents and members of the community to volunteer through the school volunteer program, which allows individuals to work in various capacities with faculty and staff.
  7. Staff tailgating during football games allows the school to build rapport with the community and celebrate our school spirit.
