Course Description:

SEE THE COURSES RESPECTIVE PAGES FOR MORE INFORMATION

Introduction to Engineering is an introductory course which develops  student's problem solving skills with emphasis placed upon the concept of developing a 3-d model or solid rendering of an object.  Students focus on the application of visualization processes and tools provided by modern state-of-the-art computer hardware and software applications. The course will emphasize the design development process of a product and how a model of that product is produced, analyzed, and evaluated using a Computer Aided Design system.

Algebra 1 is designed to provide a balance of practice with concepts, skills, and applications. The modeling connections between problem situations and their mathematical representations are discussed throughout the course in a variety of contexts. Students are given practice in modeling real life situations using linear and quadratic functions. Current technology will be used to facilitate learning and prepare for the End-of-Course test given in May.

Geometry is designed to familiarize students with the vocabulary of geometry, geometric figures, and their relationships in a 3-d setting. Students should develop the ability to reason logically based on the assumptions on the basic principles of Algebra 1, undefined terms, postulates, theorems and definitions which are taught in geometry. Course content includes inductive and deductive reasoning, parallel lines, planes, congruent triangles, quadrilaterals, inequalities in geometry, similar polygons, right triangles, circles, area of planes and solid figures, volume coordinate geometry, transformations, constructions, and logic.

Teacher Professional Biography:

I am a 2002 graduate of the University of South Carolina with a degree in mathematics. I graduated from Southern Wesleyan University with a Master's in Education in 2008. This is my 8th year at Columbia High School. My goal is to teach and inspire students to do and be the best they can possibly be.  Let's work together to achieve that goal.
