Post-Secondary Planning 

Seniors, it is important to have a concrete plan for what you will do after graduation. Here are some tips to get you started:

College Bound Students:

1)       Identify which colleges you are interested in.

2)       Submit your college applications (don’t miss deadlines).

3)       Apply for as many scholarships as you can.

4)       Submit the FAFSA in December.

 

Students entering the workforce:

1)       Identify jobs/careers of interest.

2)       Find and apply for appropriate training/certification programs for these careers (if needed).

3)       Create a resume.​

4)       Search and apply for jobs if training/certification is not needed.​

5)       Use resources like jobs.scworks.org to find opportunities.

 

Students pursuing the military:

1)       Identify military branches of interest.

2)       Contact military recruiter for each branch of interest.

3)       Study, take, and pass the ASVAB (minimum score of 31 is required. The higher the score, the more opportunities)

NCAA Eligibility Center - If you are wanting to play a collegiate sport, you must create an account on the NCAA Eligibility Center.

Applying to College

There are several ways that students can apply to college:

1.) From the College's Website: Every college has a link to their online application on their website. Create and account and follow the directions to complete each application.

2.) The Common Application: The Common Application is an undergraduate college admission application that applicants may use to apply to over 1,000 member colleges and universities in all 50 states. Students complete 1 application and can send this application to over 1,000 colleges.

Career Resources

MTC Quickjobs - These are short training certificate programs that can certify you for various jobs. Some Examples include:​

  • Commercial Driver's License​

  • Forklift Operator​

  • HVAC Certificate​

  • Accounting​

  • Cybersecurity Analyst Training Certificate​

DEPARTMENT OF WORKFORCE (SC Works)  - SC Works is South Carolina's largest jobs database. You can create an account, create a resume, and search/apply for jobs in your area (by zip code).  ​

SNAG A JOB - This employment website can help you search available jobs in your area. You can create an account and search/apply for jobs in your area (by zip code).  ​

SCOIS – This college and career readiness platform can help student research careers. Students can access career interest inventories, information on career clusters, career requirements and pathways, etc. This website is designed to help students and parents pursue their career and educational goals. ​

Midlands Tech Scholarships & Aid 

Midlands Tech Offers a plethora of financial aid and scholarships for their enrolling students. Check out the links below for more information.

  • MTC Types of Aid  - Make college as affordable as possible by applying to all forms of aid and scholarships.
  • MTC Foundation Scholarships - Apply for Midlands Tech Scholarships. The application is usually available between March 1 - April 15 (though this window changes each year).
